Boca Chica Report

This is a late report from April 10....We headed out of Boca Chica on another Miami spearfishing trip. The original plan was to go to some Miami spearfishing spots, but that got changed up as time was limited for this Boca Chica spearfishing adventure.

We headed out about 8'ish on a beautiful Florida day, light wind under 5, seas about 2's viz was a milky T-B on most drops. As we headed out of the bay we decided to hit some spearfishing spots in the vicinity. We found a bay spot that was buzzing with gags and bugs...in 8' of water!!! Yep 8', not only were their about 15-20 gags (most undersized, but a couple of slobs) but in this one spot we must have seen over 1000 lobsters, I've never seen so many bugs outa Boca Chica or Elliot in all my life...amazing! Good to see the lobster population flourishing in Miami.
Ok back to the spearfishing report, so we hit this shallow bay spot contemplating on spearing some gags, but them boys were skittish as are most shallow water fish, so the action proved not as easy as the plan, of course if I would have bought one of my custom spearguns the scenario would have unfolded differently (so lets just say this part....to be continued)...along the spearfishing adventure we bumped into a shallow water wreck that also was loaded with bugs, a Goliath, a nurse shark and a few gags, one that was all buddy buddy with the nurse so we spent quite a bit of time hassling the nurse and harrassing the gag. The plan was to let one of the spearo's onboard shoot the gag grouper, which not only would make it his first legal grouper, but his personal best gag, well all the hassle/harassment proved to succeed and our bud has a new personal best, note the "big smile"

After that Boca Chica bay spearfishing outing we headed on out to a few "new" spearfishing spots, the wind picked up, and the fact we had to head in a bit early limited our range, but nonetheless our next Homestead spearfishing spot was saweeeet! Although the current had picked up, we managed a few fish including a sheepshead,
and a couple of slab mangrove snappers.

All in all a great time, with friends and the sea.

Till next spearfishing report, tight bands, straight shafts, and smooooooooth triggers!
